Guide To Brushing Your Pet's Teeth

Week 1

  • Wait until you are about to feed your pet or have a special treat ready
  • Make sure that you are not in a rush and it is a quiet time
  • Place a small amount of animal toothpaste on your index finger
  • Get your pet to lick it off. If they don't like the toothpaste, you will need to find one they do like
  • As your pet is licking the toothpaste rub your finger on the gums gently
  • Immediately reward with the treat or food
  • This is all you need to do for week 1

Week 2

  • Wait until you are about to feed your pet or have a special treat ready
  • Make sure that you are not in a rush and it is a quiet time
  • Place a small amount of toothpaste on the small end of the toothbrush
  • Get your pet to lick it off
  • Immediately reward with the treat or food
  • That is all you need to do for week 2

Week 3

  • Wait until you are about to feed your pet or have a special treat ready
  • Make sure that you are not in a rush and it is a quiet time
  • Place a small amount of toothpaste on the small end of the toothbrush
  • Get your pet to start licking and gently place the toothbrush in the mouth between the gums and the side of the teeth
  • Do not brush the front teeth yet
  • Work the toothbrush from the back of the mouth to the front of the mouth in circular motions
  • Place fresh toothpaste on the brush and do the other side
  • Immediately reward with the treat or food
  • That is all you do for week 3

Week 4

  • Do the same as week 3 but carry on brushing for a bit longer
  • At the last minute brush the front teeth gently
  • Your pet may sneeze as this can be quite sensitive
  • Immediately reward with the treat or food
  • Congratulations, you are now brushing your pets teeth and reducing the risk of dental disease
